Hunter Renfrow wins the 2013 Zoneman
Socastee quarterback Hunter Renfrow was named the 14th WPDE Zoneman Winner on December 12th at the Clarion Conference Center in Myrtle Beach. The Braves senior captured 24 first place votes and was on 32 of 40 ballots from area coaches and media. South Florence quarterback Nick Jones, who guided the Bruins to a perfect regular season, finished 2nd with 22 total points. Johnsonville running back Tushai Edwards, a 2000 yard rusher for the Flashes, was just one point behind in third with 21 points. Latta offensive lineman Donell Stanley finished fourth. The Gamecocks commit and US Army All-American had 19 total points.
North Carolina Player of the year Jaylen Ratliffe had a very good excuse for not attending the Zone banquet. The Scotland County quarterback was preparing for the 4A state championship game against Dudley in Raleigh on Saturday. The Arbor One SCISA Player of the year is Florence Christian running back Gordon Washington who had over 2500 yards leading his team to a SCISA state championship.
Renfrow is the third player to become a two time WPDE Zoneman winner joining former Gamecocks quarterback Syvelle Newton and current Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson. Over 60 players were honored at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center.
WPDE's End Zone Banquet airs on Saturday at 1pm on NewsChannel 15.
The WPDE All-Zone team has produced 19 NFL players and over 200 players have gone on to play some form of college football.
