The Marion Swamp Foxes are confident they can improve on last year's 1-10 season. Marion linebacker Richard Thomas told WPDE NewsChannel 15 that this year will be different, "We have a chip on our shoulder because of our record last year."
Thomas leads a maroon and gold defense that returns seven starters. On offense, eight familiar faces are back, including quarterback Corey Wright, and running backs D'Ante Allen and Janarick Reed. The Swamp Foxes will also have an experienced offensive line.
This will be Marion's second season under head coach Leonard Johnson, who knows how to build a winner. Under Johnson, Scott's Branch won the 2010 Class A Division II State Championship. Johnson said a trip to the post season is not out of the question for this year's Marion squad, "We want to make the playoffs."
Marion will open the season on August 22nd on the road against Creek Bridge.
