Records can be deceiving. Loris played like a ten win team even though they were 8-4. After all, they went 2-1 against beach schools in class 3A and when you break down their 4 losses it came against a traditional NC power (South Columbus), a 3A playoff squad (Georgetown) and twice to state champ Dillon. And they were not blown out in any of those games. Loris knows how close they came to beating the state champs not once, but twice. The Loris at Dillon game on October 25th will be one of the biggest regular season games in the Zone Nation. Both Jamie Snider and Jackie Hayes will bristle at that knowing that it's a long journey to get to week 9, but it's fun to anticipate two potentially outstanding teams going toe to toe. Loris will sort out who will fill the void of Mickel Soles at quarterback, but there are plenty of other quality pieces in place. Ryan Bellamy is a guy who should be getting Zoneman votes if he plays anything like he did last year. I love Levi Moody's attitude and passion for the game. Those guys got a lot of the publicity with last year's Loris team, but look at the long list of highlight videos below and you'll see why Loris has a chance to be special. They don't have just two playmakers, they have a long list of them.
Worth Another Watch
I hope the good folks in Loris know what quality of coaching they have with Jamie Snider and the staff he's put together. In July, we profiled the addition of former Coastal Carolina All-American Marcus Lott joining the Lions staff. Lott and Adrain Grady, another former CCU star, are just tremendous role models for the Loris players and you can see the impact they are having on those youngsters. And just in case you were hiding under a rock, a Loris native and one of the great WPDE All-Zoners was front and center in the national spotlight. Former Clemson LB Jonathan "Tig" Willard saved a family from a burning car on his way to Tennessee Titans camp. I was honored to be able to help out Good Morning America with some video of Tig on their segment that features not only Tig, but interviews and reaction from the family he saved.
