Tue, 07 Aug 2012 02:55:59 GMT — 2012 Loris Lions 2011 Record: 9-2 Offense: 22.72 ppg (17th in Zone Nation) Defense: 12.72 ppg (4th in Zone Nation) Returning Starters - Offense: 5 Defense: 4 Hags Thoughts The Loris offensive fortunes will ride on line play and the development of QB Mikel Soles, who takes over for the departed Kentrez Hilton. Bruising fullback Austin Thigpen will also look for a big year. The Lions defense was one of the best in the area last season, but only four starters return. The Loris motto is "start fast." They will need to, with a trio of games against 3A schools in the first month of the season. Rich's Thoughts It's going to be a tough task for Loris to repeat nine wins like last year, especially with the tough schedule that Hags mentioned. So much focus in preseason prognostication is on skill players, but the line is always a key. I saw firsthand Jamie Snider develop outstanding lineman at Coastal Carolina including a number of All-Americans. If Loris can make strides in that department, they will be just fine. For the past two years, the Loris highlights were dominated by Kentrez Hilton. I'm looking forward to see who steps up and delivers on Friday nights.
