The Darlington Falcons expect to contend for the 2014 Class AAA Region VI football championship. In his fourth season as head coach at Darlington, Will Lampkin says, "If the cards fall our way, we feel like we can beat just about anyone."
Region VI is tough from top to bottom. Darlington will battle Hartsville, Marlboro County, Crestwood, Lakewood, and Manning for the conference crown.
Darlington returns seven starters on offense. Dual threat quarterback Shakeem Thomas threw for more than 16-hundred yards and 17 TD's last season. His top target will be Division One prospect Tra'Quan Dubose, who averaged more than 20 yards a catch during his junior year.
Another offensive weapon is speedy slot receiver Frankie Johnson, who was a WPDE Mister Hoop Zone finalist last year.
Darlington's ground attack is formidable. Stocky senior Trayvon Thomas is back after cracking the 1-thousand yard barrier last season. He will be complimented by Melquan Depugh and Antonio Hannah.
On defense, Hannah will be one of the keys at inside linebacker, along with D'Angelo Nero. They are two of the seven returners on defense. Anthony Fullard will anchor the line on a defense that is known as The Black Storm.
Darlington finished 6-5 last season with a first round exit in the playoffs. This time around, there are high expectations for a Darlington roster that has 22 seniors.
