Six area athletes sign college letters

Conway's Ikeem Coles signed a football scholarship with Orangeburg Calhoun Prep.

Two WPDE All-Zone selections headline a group of six athletes who signed National Letters of Intent on Tuesday.

Conway High's Ikeem Coles signed with Orangeburg Calhoun Prep. Coles says he will play wide receiver at the two year school. He says he plans to play on the FCS level, possibly with Coastal Carolina, after playing at the prep school. Coles caught 34 passes for 512 yards and five touchdowns. He is a versatile athlete who also played defensive back at Conway and served as a return man. Coles played in the North-South All-Star game and was a WPDE All-Zone pick.

Socastee High's Koel Cutler has signed a college letter to play at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming. The 6'4" guard averaged 16 points his senior season in high school. Cutler was a WPDE All-Hoop Zone selection.

Three more Socastee athletes announced their college plans on Tuesday. Jiovany Rendon has signed a lacrosse scholarship with Delaware Valley in Pennsylvania, Stephen Gursky will be a preferred football walk-on at The Citadel and try to make the Bulldogs team as a receiver, and Madison Lowe signed to play softball at Francis Marion University.

Aynor High's Ayawna Deas signed to play women's college basketball with Morris College in Sumter. Deas is the Aynor Student Body President. She's also involved in the school band and ROTC.
