It was called Guaranteed Good Weather Night. The Myrtle Beach Pelicans vowed to give $10,000 to a lucky fan if .25 inches of rain fell during the Birds game against the Potomac Nationals. With Tropical Storm Andrea looming, the rains came to the TicketReturn.Com field and suspended the game in the 9th inning tied at 5, but the precipitation came too late to write the $10,000 check.
The Pelicans spelled out the rules of the promotion earlier in the day. If any rain fell between 6 and 7pm, fans would receive a ticket to a future game. If .25 inches of rain fell between 7 and 10pm, one fan would receive $10,000. At 10pm, there was just .06 of rain at the ballpark, but the game was not over. When the Pelicans tied the game in the bottom of the 9th, the rains came and suspended the contest. It's not known when Myrtle Beach and Potomac will resume the game as the Nationals and Pelicans both hit the road.
At 11:00 pm, the rain total was .38 at TicketReturn.com field, but no $10,000 would be written. Fans did receive a ticket to a future game after there was a light sprinkle of rain prior to first pitch.
