Coker looks to continue cinderella run in CWS

The Coker campus is a ghost town with the end of final exams, except for the sound of the fungo at Tom J. New Field. The Cobras are one of eight teams still standing in the Division II baseball ranks and leave on Thursday morning for Cary, North Carolina to compete in the Division II College World Series. The Cobras play Sunday at 1pm against Tampa in the USA National Baseball Complex.

Dave Schmotzer guided the Cobras to the NAIA World Series in his second season at the Hartsville school back in 1994. He appreciates the improbably journey 19 years later in the NCAA ranks. He joked that when he last was at the Series, there were landline telephones and he sent messages via pigeon.

Coker comes to Cary with a 38-14 record and an 8 game winning streak in post-season play. The Cobras were unbeaten in Mt. Olive, North Carolina last weekend to win the Division II Southeast Regional.
