Coastal Carolina midfielder Pedro Ribeiro was a first round pick by the Philadelphia Union in the 2014 MLB Draft. The native of Brazil was the 15th overall selection. Pedro was with teammates in the Coastal Carolina men's soccer locker room when he heard his name called on the ESPNEWS telecast. Ribeiro became the 9th Chanticleer drafted in MLS. He had 31 goals and 26 assists in his Coastal Carolina career, highlighted by back to back trips to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament Sweet 16.
When it came up (his name being called), I don't know how to describe it, it was amazing," Ribeiro said about hearing his name called in the first round. "It's just really good to see that I could make the draft and another opportunity at the next stage of my life." Ribeiro had an excellent performance in the MLS Scouting Combine which vaulted him into the first round. The Brazil native joins a Philadelphia squad that finished 12-12-10 in 2013, good for 7th in the Eastern Conference.
