Alex Buccilli delivered a bases loaded single in the 14th inning to give Coastal Carolina a 2-1 win over the College of Charleston on Wednesday night at TicketReturn.com field in Myrtle Beach. The Chanticleers used eight different pitchers and recorded 19 strikeouts, a school record. Ryan Connelly threw the final three frames and striking out 5 to pick up the win.
The teams traded single runs in the 3rd and 4th inning and then settled in for 9 plus scoreless frames. It appeared that the Chanticleers were going to win it in the 11th inning on a bases loaded walk by Ted Blackman with two outs, but the close call was a called third strike which incensed Blackman and forced Gary Gilmore to come and get him away from the umpire.
Coastal improved to 21-12 and have won six straight games. The College of Charleston is now 18-14. CCU returns to Big South play when it travels to Winthrop this weekend.
