Pittsburgh linebacker Lawrence Timmons made a whopping 17 tackles in the Steelers 19-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Timmons was the 2003 WPDE Zoneman winner from Wilson High. Timmons 17 stops against the Ravens was the most in the NFL this week.
Ryan Quigley, who played at North Myrtle Beach High, is the holder for the New York Jets. He took the snap for kicker Nick Folk, who booted a game-winning 42-yard field goal in the Jets 30-27 overtime win over the New England Patriots. Quigley also punted six times for an average of 40.2 yards with a long of 52 yards. In addition, Quigley had two punts land inside the 20-yard line.
A pair of players from the Pee Dee region of South Carolina helped the Atlanta Falcons to a 31-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Former West Florence and Clemson standout Malliciah Goodman had two tackles, and former Cheraw High and Gamecocks player Cliff Matthews had one stop.
In Charlotte, ex-Coastal Carolina star Mike Tolbert rushed 13 times for 36 yards with one touchdown for the Carolina Panthers in a 30-15 win over the St. Louis Rams.
Former Marlboro County standout Robert Ayers made one tackle for the Denver Broncos in a 39-33 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Clifton Geathers, who played high school football at Carvers Bay, made one tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles in a 17-3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
On Thursday night, the Seattle Seahawks beat the Arizona Cardinals 34-22. Jaron Brown, who played at Cheraw High and Clemson, had two catches for 17 yards and scored his first NFL touchdown for Arizona. Former Lamar High and Gamecocks star John Abraham made three tackles, including two sacks for the Cards.
