The Carolina Panthers beat the New York Jets 30-20 in Charlotte. Ex-Coastal Carolina star Mike Tolbert had 12 carries for 18 yards and a touchdown. He also had one reception for seven yards. Jets punter Ryan Quigley out of North Myrtle Beach High, had three punts, averaging 33 yards, with a long of 56. Quigley also had one punt blocked.
2003 WPDE Zoneman winner Lawrence Timmons out of Wilson High in Florence had five tackles for the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 30-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Former West Florence High and Clemson standout Malliciah Goodman had a quarterback hit and returned a fumble 13 yards for the Atlanta Falcons in a 27-26 win over the Washington Redskins.
John Abraham, who played at Lamar High, made three tackles for the Arizona Cardinals in a 37-34 overtime win over the Tennessee Titans. Abraham was also credited with half of a sack.
Jerome Simpson out of Coastal Carolina had one reception for 19 yards for the Minnesota Vikings in a 48-30 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Oakland Raiders 56-31. Junior Hemingway, who played at Conway High, had one tackle for the Chiefs. Marshall McFadden, who played at Lamar High, had one tackle for the Raiders.
Linebacker Justin Durant, a former WPDE All-Zone selection from Wilson High, had one tackle for the Dallas Cowboys in a 37-36 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
On Thursday night, Marlboro County product Robert Ayers made three tackles for the Denver Broncos in a 27-20 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
