NFL Week 1: Players with ties to Grand Strand and Pee Dee

Conway High grad Junior Hemingway caught his first NFL TD pass on Sunday.

There are 13 active players on NFL rosters who played either high school or college football in the Grand Strand or Pee Dee regions of South Carolina.

Former Conway High wide receiver Junior Hemingway caught one pass for three yards. It was for a touchdown, and the first of his NFL career for the Kansas City Chiefs in a 28-2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Former Coastal Carolina running back Mike Tolbert had four carries for 10 yards, and one catch for minus-6 yards for the Carolina Panthers in a 12-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Another CCU alum, Jerome Simpson of the Minnesota Vikings, had seven catches for 140 yards in a 34-24 loss to the Detroit Lions.

Ex-Cheraw High and Clemson wide receiver Jaron Brown caught one pass for 14 yards in his first NFL game for the Arizona Cardinals in a 27-24 loss to the St. Louis Rams.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons out of Wilson High in Florence made five tackles in a 16-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Linebacker Justin Durant, who played high school football at Wilson, had three tackles in his debut for the Dallas Cowboys in a 36-31 win over the New York Giants.

On Thursday night, Marlboro County's Robert Ayers had a sack for the Denver Broncos in a 49-27 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
