NFL Scouts attend CCU Palmetto Pro Day

Former CCU running back Lorenzo Taliaferro worked out at Palmetto Pro Day.

19 NFL prospects worked out at CCU Palmetto Pro Day on Thursday at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.

15 of the 19 players are former Coastal Carolina football players. Wide Receiver Matt Hazel, and running back Lorenzo Taliaferro were the highest profile athletes to show off their skills in front of eight NFL teams and one from the CFL.

The Browns, Jets, Eagles, Bills, Panthers, Steelers, Jaguars, and 49ers had scouts in attendance. The lone CFL representative was the Montreal Alouettes.

Ex-CCU defensive back Dontavais Johnson led all Chanticleers with a vertical jump of 37 inches.

Furman Free Safety Greg Worthy had the top broad jump of 10' 3".

In the 225-pound bench press, former Coastal defensive tackle Jeffery Salley had the most repetitions with 33.

Former Coastal Carolina quarterback Tyler Thigpen threw for most of the individual passing drills. The NFL veteran free agent says he is still looking to catch on with another team.

Hazel told NewsChannel 15 that he has workouts scheduled with both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers prior to the May 8-10 NFL Draft.

The first round of the NFL Draft will take place on May 8. Rounds two and three will follow on Friday, May 9. Rounds 4-7 will be held Saturday, May 10.
