Gamecocks shutout Chanticleers on the diamond

The Gamecocks are 13-5 lifetime against the Chanticleers.

The South Carolina Gamecocks beat the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 4-0 in college baseball on Wednesday night in Columbia.

Marcus Mooney's second inning double plated two runs. It was all the offense South Carolina needed. Brison Celek and

D.C. Arendas drove in the Gamecocks other two runs.

Evan Beal made the start for the Gamecocks. He tossed four innings of no-hit ball. Curt Britt came on in relief to pitch three shutout innings. Britt gave up the only Coastal Carolina hit of the game to freshman G.K. Young out of Conway High.

Four pitchers combined on South Carolina's 1-hit shutout. It marked the 10th shutout of the season for the Gamecocks.

Tanner English, who played at St. James High, went 0-for-3 at the plate. But he made a spectacular catch in the seventh inning to rob Michael Paez of a hit.

South Carolina improved their record to 21-3. Coastal Carolina falls to 10-15.
