Former Coastal Carolina star gets two hits in MLB debut

Ex-CCU star Tommy La Stella had two hits in his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves.

Former Coastal Carolina baseball star Tommy La Stella went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Atlanta Braves in his first Major League game. The Boston Red Sox beat the Braves 4-0 at Fenway Park.

La Stella was called up from the Braves' Triple-A Gwinnett team and started at second base for Atlanta. In the field, La Stella helped the Braves turn two double-plays, and executed a perfect throw to Evan Gattis to nail Grady Sizemore at the plate.

La Stella's first big league hit came during his second at-bat. He singled to center field in the fifth inning off Boston starting pitcher John Lackey.

Boston beat Atlanta for a third straight night, behind the pitching Lackey, who combined with three relievers for the Red Sox first shutout this season.

Former South Carolina Gamecocks standout Jackie Bradley, Jr. went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run for Boston.
