Coastal Carolina rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat the VMI Keydets on Wednesday night at Cameron Hall in Lexington, Virginia.
CCU freshman guard Elijah Wilson scored a career-high 26 points. He drained a three-pointer late in the game to give the Chanticleers a 79-78 lead.
Warren Gillis added 16 points for Coastal Carolina, and teammate Josh Cameron chipped in with 15.
D.J. Covington led VMI with 21 points.
The Chanticleers outscored VMI 47-28 in the second half, and they committed only three turnovers to nine for the Keydets. CCU also had eight steals to just one for VMI. The Keydets were held to just seven field goals over the final 20 minutes.
Coastal made two key defensive stops in the final minute to hang on for a Big South Conference road win to improve to 8-3 in league play. The Chants are now one-half game ahead of UNC-Asheville for first place in the South Division.
Coastal Carolina (15-10) returns home to play Gardner-Webb at the HTC Center in Conway at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 15.
