College Hoops: CCU 70 Gardner-Webb 56

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers men's basketball team rallied from nine points down in the second half to beat the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs 70-56 at Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, North Carolina on Saturday night.

CCU junior guard Anthony Raffa scored a career-high 32 points. During one stretch, Raffa scored 17 of the Chants 21 points to lead the comeback and help his squad sweep the regular season series with Gardner-Webb.

Hidden in the box score behind Raffa's huge night was the play of Kierre Greenwood. Greenwood had 10 assists, eight rebounds and scored six points.

Chris Gradnigo came off the bench to tally 15 points with nine rebounds for CCU. Sam McLaurin had eight points with 10 rebounds.

The Coastal defense held the Runnin' Bulldogs to just 31 percent shooting from the field. CCU outrebounded GW 43-35.

Coastal Carolina improves to a record of 16-5 overall and 9-2 in the Big South Conference. CCU is alone in second place in the conference behind UNC-Asheville who defeated Campbell 95-84 behind 31 points from Matt Dickey. UNCA has a conference record of 11-1.

Coastal returns to Conway for a three game home stretch starting with Charleston Southern at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4.
