College Football: Liberty 63 Coastal Carolina 27

The Liberty Flames torched 20th ranked Coastal Carolina 63-27 in Lynchburg, Virginia on Saturday. Liberty raced to a 42-0 first half lead and rolled up 518 yards of total offense on the day.

Liberty quarterback Mike Brown ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more. Aldreakis Allen led the Flames in rushing with 19 carries for 96 yards and two scores.

Coastal Carolina closed the gap with a touchdown pass from Aramis Hillary to Chris Presley just before halftime to make it 42-7. Then in the third quarter, Hillary hit Adrian Sullivan on a 44-yard TD strike to trim the Liberty lead to 42-14. Later in the third, on a double-pass gadget play, South Carolina Gamecocks transfer DeMario Bennett threw a 32-yard TD pass to Matt Hazel to make the score 42-21. CCU could never get closer.

Liberty outscored Coastal 21-6 over the final 16 minutes of the contest. The Flames improve to 4-3 overall, 2-0 in the Big South Conference. CCU falls to 4-2 overall, 1-1 in conference play.

Marcus Lott led the CCU defense with 10 tackles, one forced fumble and one pass break up. Cheraw native Travis Small led the Chanticleers in rushing with nine carries for 43 yards.

Gardner Webb will be at Coastal Carolina next Saturday night, October 22 at 7 p.m. at Brooks Stadium for homecoming.
