Coastal football plays home opener Saturday against Furman

Coastal Carolina head football coach Joe Moglia has a 9-5 record in his second season with the Chanticleers.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (1-0) football team will play the Furman Paladins (0-1) on Saturday at 6 p.m. It's the home opener for the Chanticleers, who are coming off a week one victory at South Carolina State.

Coastal is ranked 22nd in the latest FCS Coaches' Poll after a 27-20 win over S.C. State. Furman blew a two-touchdown lead in a loss to Gardner-Webb in the Paladins opener. Furman played without their starting quarterback, Reese Hannon, who is expected to start this week against CCU.

Coastal Carolina is 6-8 lifetime against teams from the Southern Conference. But the Chants have beaten Furman in three of the previous meetings, including last year's 47-45 triple-overtime thriller in Greenville.

Chanticleers head coach Joe Moglia said, "The fact that they played without their quarterback (last week), they get their quarterback back and our situation a year ago. I have no doubt they'll come in here ready to go with a chip on their shoulder."
