Coastal Carolina to face Virginia at NCAA Tournament

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will play the Virginia Cavaliers in a second round East Region game at the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tip-off is set for 9:25 p.m. and will be carried on TBS.

CCU is a 16-seed while Virginia is the top seed out of the East.

Coastal Carolina (21-12) earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big South Conference Tournament Championship last weekend.

The Virginia Cavaliers (28-6) beat Duke 72-63 to win the ACC Tournament Championship.

CCU will make their third trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 1993. The Chanticleers are 0-2 lifetime at the NCAA's.

The Chants have played Virginia twice, with the Cavs winning the last meeting 89-74 in Charlottesville in 2003.

Coastal Carolina head coach Cliff Ellis has a 6-7 record in NCAA Tournament games. Coach Ellis guided the 1990 Clemson Tigers and the 1999 Auburn Tigers to "Sweet 16" appearances.

Wofford is the only other team from the state of South Carolina to make this year's field of 68. The 15-seed Terriers will play 2-seed Michigan in Milwaukee on Thursday.

Clemson made the field of 32 at the National Invitation Tournament. The Tigers will host Georgia State on Tuesday at 9 p.m.
