Coastal Carolina still unbeaten after win over VMI

Coastal Carolina now has an 8-0 record.

The 3rd ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers beat the VMI Keydets 66-27 at Brooks Stadium to improve their record to 8-0 overall, 3-0 in the Big South Conference.

Coastal quarterback Michael Church, filling in for the injured Alex Ross, completed 12 of 15 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Matt Hazel caught two TD passes, former Wilson High star John Israel caught a TD pass.

The Chanticleers led 30-24 at halftime. They outscored VMI 36-3 over the last two quarters to pull away. Devin Brown returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. It was the longest touchdown in Coastal history.

CCU running back Lorenzo Taliaferro had 15 carries for 126 yards and one score. Taliaferro broke the school's single-season rushing record previously held by Patrick Hall.

Coastal returns to action against Charlotte next Saturday, November 2 at Brooks Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
