Matt Hazel is one of dozens of football players who will attend Coastal Carolina's annual Palmetto Pro Day on Thursday at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.
Hazel, who was a first team All-Big South Conference selection, is Coastal Carolina's all-time leading receiver with 183 catches. He capped off his CCU career with 70 catches for 990 yards and nine touchdowns.
Hazel finished his career at CCU with 2,553 receiving yards, second in school history behind Jerome Simpson of the Minnesota Vikings.
Hazel, and former Chanticleers teammate DeMario Bennett, are among the wide receivers who will attempt to impress the NFL scouts who will watch them at Pro Day.
All-Big South Lineman Jamey Cheatwood, and All-Big South Offensive Player of the Year Lorenzo Taliaferro are also slated to attend the CCU Pro Day, along with other former CCU stars.
Players will be put through various tests, including the bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 40 yard dash, 3-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle, and 60-yard shuttle.
NFL scouts will also conduct private interviews with the players in attendance.
Hazel attended the NFL Scouting Combine last month. The bottom line, according to NFL.com writer Nolan Nawrocki, is that Hazel has the ability to earn an NFL roster spot.
Hazel is projected to be a late round pick in the three day 2014 NFL Draft that will be held May 8-10.
