Coastal Carolina eliminated at NCAA Soccer Tournament

Coastal Carolina finished the season with a 20-3-2 record.

The 12th ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers men's soccer team was eliminated in the third round of the NCAA Tournament by the 2nd ranked Maryland Terrapins 5-1 on Sunday in College Park, Maryland.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half, Coastal senior forward Ashton Bennett scored his 16th goal of the season to tie the game. Maryland retaliated moments later with what proved to be the game winner. Maryland forward Patrick Mullins redirected a free kick into the net to give the Terps a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

Sunny Jane took over in the second half for Maryland. Jane tacked on two goals, and Jereme Raley scored in the 86th minute to give the Terps a 5-1 victory.

Coastal Carolina is now 0-2 lifetime in third round games at the NCAA's. The Chants dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to UC Santa Clara in 2003.

Maryland advances to the quarterfinals, and are one victory away from making it to the College Cup in Hoover, Alabama. CCU's season ends with a record of 20-3-2.
