The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers basketball team defeated the Western Carolina Catamounts 76-68 at the HTC Center in Conway on Wednesday. It was the 650th career win for head coach Cliff Ellis.
Elijah Wilson hit 11-of-15 shots from the field, and led CCU in scoring with 23 points.
Western Carolina rallied from a 12-point second half deficit to take a brief lead, 61-60 with with 5:06 to play.
Wilson and Josh Cameron took charge of the game in the closing minutes. Wilson hit a lay-up that gave CCU the lead for good with 4:56 remaining. That started a nine point run for Coastal.
Cameron made the start for the Chants at point guard. He scored 17. Cameron made 10-of-11 free throws.
CCU was red hot from the free throw line making 19-of-23.
Coastal outrebounded Western Carolina 43-34. Michel Enanga led the Chants with 10 rebounds. He also scored 10 points.
Coastal improved to 3-5 on the season. They will host North Carolina Wesleyan on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
