Childers and Richard invited to NFL Camps

Donovan Richard will work out for the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.

Jamie Childers out of Coastal Carolina has been invited to the Carolina Panthers three-day mini camp next week, according to his agent Joel Turner. If the Panthers do not sign Childers, he will work out for the New York Giants, Turner said.

Childers played both tight end and quarterback at Coastal Carolina. He will try to make it in the NFL at the tight end position. Childers was an All-Big South Conference selection. He caught 11 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns his senior season. His 21.2 yards a catch is a single season school record.

2006 WPDE All-Zone selection Donovan Richard, who played high school football at Carvers Bay, has been invited by the Jacksonville Jaguars to attend a four-day camp as a free agent. He says he hopes to sign a deal with the team next weekend. Richard played college ball at South Carolina State.

He had an impressive Pro Day in Orangeburg earlier this year. Richard ran a 4.41 forty-yard dash and had 24 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Richard told WPDE NewsChannel 15 that the Jaguars are looking for him to play special teams and linebacker.
