CCU drops Big South hoops opener at Charleston Southern

Coastal Carolina falls to 7-8 overall, 0-1 in league play after losing at Charleston Southern.

The Charleston Southern Buccaneers (7-7) hit 13 three-pointers and went on to cruise past the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 70-58 on Wednesday night at the Buc Dome in Charleston. It was the Big South Conference opener for both teams.

Will Saunders, who hit five triples, led Charleston Southern with 16 points. The Buccaneers got out to a 45-27 halftime lead and were never challenged.

Four different Buccaneers hit double-figures in scoring. In additon to Saunders, Saah Nimley scored 15, Arlon Harper had 14, and Matt Kennedy tallied a dozen points.

Coastal Carolina (7-8) was led by Josh Cameron with 11 points, and Warren Gillis with ten.

Coastal Carolina's next game will be on Saturday, January 11 at Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
