The third ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers football team will face the VMI Keydets at Brooks Stadium in Conway this Saturday, October 26 at 6 p.m. Coastal enters the game with a 7-0 record. VMI is 1-6.
The Chanticleers will be without quarterback Alex Ross, who is 8-0 as a starter. He injured his foot and the thumb on his left, non-throwing hand in a double-overtime 55-52 win at Liberty last weekend. Ross is expected to miss 1-2 weeks.
CCU head coach Joe Moglia says he does not know who will start in place of Ross. Michael Church, Dalton Demos and Brian Kass are all in the mix. Moglia says he will leave the decision on who will play to his offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude.
Coastal has won the last four meetings against VMI, and eight of the last nine head-to-head with the Keydets. CCU won last year's game 34-7 in Lexington, Virginia.
VMI is coming off a 49-35 loss at Presbyterian. The Keydets have the number one passing offense in the Big South Conference. RB Derrick Ziglar is coming off a career-high 126 yards rushing with two touchdowns last week.
Coastal ranks first in the FCS in red zone offense, third down conversions, fourth down conversions, and fewest tackles for loss allowed this season.
