West Florence kicker commits to Clemson

Alex Spence makes pledge to play for Clemson in 2014.

TigerNet has learned that place kicker and punter Alex Spence from West Florence, SC has committed to Clemson Friday afternoon.

Spence was offered this afternoon and immediately accepted joining the Clemson program. He is the top kicker in South Carolina for the 2014 class.

While attending the Dabo Swinney football camp the last three days, he came away very impressive in the kicking drills. During his junior year, he was 11 for 13 on field goals and had nearly a 40 yard per punt average.

Since their is a lack of kicker depth on the roster, he will get the chance to compete for the starting job on kickoffs, field goals and punts. The in-state kicker becomes the 11th member of the 2014 class for Clemson.

Spence was a WPDE All-Zone selection last season, after scoring 83 points (11 FG, 50 Exp) for West Florence. His long field goal was 43 yards.
