UConn routs Clemson 14-1 to win NCAA baseball regional

The UConn Huskies took the long road to win the Clemson Regional, capping it off with a 14-1 rout of Clemson on Monday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Huskies were routed by Coastal Carolina 13-1 in the opener on Friday, but bounced back with a win on Saturday over Sacred Heart and followed that with a pair of Sunday wins over CCU and Clemson. On Monday, the #2 seed and underdog set the tone right away with a three run first inning and never trailed.

Ryan Fuller had a three run HR and 5 RBI and Greg Nappo, who pitched on Saturday, gave the Huskies 5 2/3 innings of solid work. It was a memorable night for the UConn baseball program as a pair of players (Matt Barnes and George Springer) were selected in the first round of the MLB Draft while the game was going on. Springer went to the Houston Astros at #11 overall and Barnes is a Boston Red Sox first round pick at #19.

Connecticut will face South Carolina this weekend in the Super Regionals in a best of three series. The winner will advance to Omaha and the College World Series. UConn 14 Clemson 1
