Goodman from West Florence taken in NFL Draft

Malliciah Goodman was picked in the 4th round by the Atlanta Falcons.

Defensive end Malliciah Goodman was picked by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft on Saturday. Goodman was a Parade All-American and WPDE All-Zone selection out of West Florence High.

The 6' 4" 276 pound Goodman has long arms and monsterous 11-inch hands. He emerged as a great pass rusher at the end of his college career at Clemson with three sacks in a bowl win over LSU.

Goodman had seven sacks last season and his eight career forced fumbles rank third in Clemson history. Atlanta released former Lamar High star and Pro Bowl defensive end John Abraham in the off season. They added free agent defensive end Osi Umenyiora. Goodman is expected to compete for the starting job on the opposite side of Umenyiora.

Fellow Clemson teammate and safety Jonathan Meeks was taken by Buffalo in the 5th round. The fourth leading rusher in Clemson history, Andre Ellington was taken by the Arizona Cardinals in the 6th round.

Saturday was a busy day for Gamecocks in the NFL Draft. Running back Marcus Lattimore was picked by the San Francisco 49ers in the 4th round. Wide receiver and return specialist Ace Sanders to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 4th, and Devin Taylor went to the Detroit Lions also in the 4th round. In the 6th round, outside linebacker DeVonte Holloman went to the Dallas Cowboys.
