College Baseball: South Carolina beats Clemson to win series

The Gamecocks won bragging rights over the Tigers winning two out of three in the series.

South Carolina pitcher Nolan Belcher tossed a 3-hit complete game shutout to lead the Gamecocks to an 8-0 victory over the Clemson Tigers, before a sold out crowd of 8,242 at Carolina Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina on Sunday.

Belcher struck out seven with no walks to pick up his second win of the season. Belcher's nine inning performance was the first complete game by a Gamecocks pitcher since Sam Dyson turned the trick in May of 2010.

The Gamecocks got all the offense they needed in the fourth inning. Chase Vergason led off the frame with a solo home run. South Carolina added five more runs in the sixth, with an amazing two-out rally. Connor Bright drove in two runs to lead the Gamecocks offense.

Murrells Inlet native Tanner English went 1-for-3 at the plate for South Carolina. The former St. James star also walked.

South Carolina (8-2) took two out of three from Clemson (6-4) to win the series. The Gamecocks have won 20 of the last 28 games between the rival schools.
