Nearly two weeks after National Signing Day, the decision finally came from the top high school prospect in the nation. South Pointe defensive end JaDeveon Clowney will sign with the South Carolina Gamecocks. It's the second straight year that Steve Spurrier and his staff has scored an in-state recruit with a high national profile. In 2010, Marcus Lattimore inked with USC and was a major factor in the Gamecocks SEC East title. Clowney is expected to make an immediate impact on the USC defense.
Early on it was the Gamecocks and Alabama as the two schools that were in the lead for Clowney's services. Clemson made a late surge and it ultimately came down to the two in-state schools. The announcement was carried live by ESPN's SportsCenter. He chose February 14th to make the announcement on his birthday.
Clowney won South Carolina's Mister Football award in Myrtle Beach back in December.
