Clemson offers $5,000 to solve Howard's Rock Mystery

A portion of Howard's Rock was chipped off by vandals on June 2, according to Clemson police.

The police at Clemson University have released security camera videos of a white pick-up truck arriving and leaving Memorial Stadium. The investigators believe that two men that jumped out of the truck have something to do with the vandalism of Howard's Rock located inside the stadium.

Police have released two videos and a still shot of the pick-up truck. The truck pulled up to the stadium at 11:20 p.m. on June 2. Ten minutes later, two men jumped back into the vehicle and fled the scene.

A portion of Howard's Rock was broken off and the glass case that housed the rock was damaged.

Clemson football players rub the rock for good luck before they run down the hill before every home game. The rock was named after former Clemson head football coach Frank Howard.

Police announced there is a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. The Clemson University Athletic Department raised the reward money from private funds.
