Whip Up Your Weekend: Monte Cristo sandwich, (Sydney Glenn/WPDE)  

Celebrate National Monte Cristo day with an easy take on the French classic.


  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 teaspoons honey Dijon mustard
  • 2 slices thin deli sliced Swiss cheese
  • 2 slices thin deli ham
  • 2 slices thin deli sliced turkey
  • 1 large egg
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • powdered sugar, for dusting


  • Pre Heat sandwich press to 400°F. I use the nonstick spray.
  • Spread 1/2 teaspoon mustard on each slice of bread.
  • Layer between mustard sides of two slices of bread, 1 slice cheese, 2 slices ham, 2 slices turkey, and another slice of cheese.
  • Whisk egg, salt and pepper in a shallow dish until smooth. Blend in milk.
  • DIP both sides of sandwiches into egg mixture until bread is lightly soaked.
  • Place the sandwich in the press; drizzle any remaining egg mixture over top of sandwich.
  • Bake 6-8 minutes until the outside is golden brown.
  • Serve warm dusted with powdered sugar and dip or spread raspberry preserves on sandwiches.
  • Garnish with fresh raspberries.
