A woman has died after a driver hit a pedestrian on Nichols Highway around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Reanna Strickland, 17, of Conway, was traveling south on Nichols Highway near the end of Buckle Berry Road in a 2002 Chevy when she approached a collision, stated SCHP.
South Carolina Highway Patrol says Strickland veered off to the right of the road to go around the collision, when she struck Brenda Cook, 48, of Galivants Ferry, who was standing by an ambulance.
Cook was pronounced dead at Conway Medical Center around 3:20 a.m, according to Horry County Coroner Darris Fowler.
Officials say Strickland continued driving south and left the scene. A short time later she was arrested and taken to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
Strickland's charges include hit and run, duties of driver involved in accident, property damage, reckless homicide and death caused by injury from a vehicle.
She was released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Sunday.
