Horry County detectives investigate shooting, car crash involving two brothers

Horry County Police are trying to figure out what led to the shootings of two brothers on Wednesday night, and how they ended up crashing their truck.

One of the men died at the scene, the other is in stable condition at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, according to Horry County Police Lieutenant Robert Kegler.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge has identified the man as David Blanton, 24, of Loris.

Lt. Kegler said police don't know if the two victims were shot while they were driving, or shot before they started driving. Either way, they eventually crashed into a utility pole. Now, police are looking for the suspect or suspects.

Kegler said police are "identifying potential suspects, going back to the area, re-canvassing, looking for potential witnesses-- the things that you typically do within the first 12 to 24 hours of a homicide investigation."

A neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, heard the crash. "I came out and saw my neighbor and they kind of let me know what was going on. I walked to the end of the street and saw a truck there that had hit the pole."

The neighbor said lately she's gotten used to seeing police in her community. In April, Malcolm Norris, was shot and killed in the same area. He managed The Hills grocery store and was killed in a robbery.

She says her community hasn't been the same since.

"It doesn't feel like the Loris when I first moved here."

Lt. Kegler said the police report should be available within the next couple of days.
