DNR searching for Florence man who went missing at Lake Marion

UPDATE -- Family and close friends have identified the missing man as Jeffrey Brigman.

Dive teams with the SC Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are searching for a Florence man who went missing while swimming with family and friends Friday evening around 7 o'clock in the canal at Lake Marion in Santee, according to Robert McCollugh with DNR.

The swimmer's name isn't being released jus yet, but we're told he was a volunteer firefighter in Florence County and is currently a paramedic.

McCollugh said they spent several hours searching the lake Friday night.

He added dive teams returned to the lake Saturday morning along with volunteers that are helping in the search.

DNR is also using a helicopter to do aerial searches over the lake.

In a post on the Howe Springs Fire Department's Facebook page, Chief Billy Dillon said, "It is with a heavy heart that we find out that one of our brothers have gone missing. Even though he had just left the department, Jeffery Brigman will always be a brother to all of us here at the Howe Springs Fire Department."
