CSX offering to pay Abbeville residents' expenses

      ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) -

CSX spokeswoman Carla Groleau says those affected by a train derailment earlier this month merely need to bring receipts to the Abbeville Civic Center this week to get reimbursed for expenses.

Twenty-eight cars of a freight train derailed early on March 8.

As many as 1,000 people were evacuated at one time. About 50

residents were kept away from their homes for two days while the

      wreck was cleaned up.

Officials say a tipped over tanker carrying methanol was stable

but officials wanted residents near the tracks to stay away because

the flammable liquid could have caught fire.

The cause of the wreck is still under investigation. Groleau

says the investigation could take weeks.
