Crews searching for missing boater in Darlington County

Crews are searching for a missing boater on the Great Pee Dee River at the Cashua Landing on Highway 34 in Darlington County.

The missing man has been identified as Stephen Ashley Murray.

Murray and another man were boating on the River Saturday night around 11 o'clock when they were thrown from the boat after hitting a log, according to Palmetto Rural Fire Chief Tommy Spivey.

The other boater was able to swim to shore but lost sight of Murray.

Spivey said crews started searching just after 9 o'clock Sunday morning.

Several departments are helping in the search including Hartsville Fire, Darlington County Sheriff's Office, Darlington County Fire District, Cheraw Rescue, West Florence Fire and the Department of Natural Resources.
