The Beach Ball Classic basketball tournament in Myrtle Beach is the No. 2 winter basketball tournament in the country, and it's credited by some for putting Myrtle Beach on the map for sports tourism.
Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes has helped promote the tournament over the years, and said this event brings in thousands of high school basketball stars across the country every year.
Some, of which, are recruited to play at the collegiate level, and even end up in the NBA.
"We feel like we really were instrumental in the beginning of sports tourism in the city, and we're really happy to be a great part of that and have seen the developments in sports tourism as we go along and to know we were basically the ones who got it started," Rhodes said.
The tournament runs in until December 31 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
