Police: La. shooter embroiled in difficult divorce
LOCKPORT, La. (AP) - Authorities in Louisiana say a nurse who killed three people and himself had been embroiled in a custody fight with his ex-wife.
Officials say Ben Freeman killed his current wife before shooting his former in-laws and his onetime boss in a rampage that spanned two parishes in Louisiana. Three survivors are hospitalized, two in critical condition.
In June, Freeman agreed to pay his ex-wife Jeanne thousands of dollars in overdue child support payments and the next month he agreed to split the proceeds from lots they were selling.
But authorities say that in October, Freeman pleaded guilty to telephone-harassment charges filed by the woman. And last month he was cited for domestic battery against his current wife.
