Haley has raised more than $5 million

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley has raised more than $5 million in her bid to win a second term as South Carolina's chief executive, taking in more than $757,000 in the last three months of 2013.

The State newspaper reports that campaign finance reports filed Friday show the Republican closed out the year with more than $3.7 million cash on hand.

Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden raised nearly $459,000 during the quarter that ended Dec. 31. He has about $1.4 million cash on hand and has raised more than $1.6 million overall so far.

Both campaigns said that they were encouraged by the fundraising numbers. In 2010, Haley beat Sheheen by a margin of 51 percent to 47 percent of the ballot.
