Wrecks, holiday traffic jam up roads

As visitors are beginning to leave the area after Labor Day weekend, some accidents have been reported, further slowing down traffic.

Around 10 a.m. an accident was reported near the intersection of U.S. 501 and S.C. 544 after a car carrier truck had two vehicles fall off while it was turning on to 501 from 544, according to Capt. Craig Richardson with Horry County Fire Rescue.

No injuries were reported in that accident, Richardson said and it has since been cleared.

Another accident was also reported on S.C. 544 near the Huddle House, near Cox Ferry Road a short time after the other wreck, furthering the area's traffic woes.

Around 1:20 p.m. the South Carolina Department of Public Safety sent out an alert warning drivers to be prepared for "heavy congestion" on U.S. 501 northbound in Horry and Marion counties.
