Workers hurt in maintenance incident at Seacoast Medical Center

Five plant operation employees of Seacoast Medical Center in Little River were hurt Friday while a contract worker was servicing an electrical panel.

According to a statement issued to us by Seacoast, three of the employees were treated and released and two were transferred to the Augusta Burn Center. The center says the incident was not in a patient care area.

Santee Cooper was called in to restore full power. Some telephone service was disrupted.

Seacoast says healthcare officials are working with fire and safety officials to learn more about the cause of the accident.

"Our concern right now is with our employees and their families, said Arnold Green, Chief Operating Officer of Seacoast Medical Center. " We have notified family and are assisting them with any of their needs, including transportation to and lodging in Augusta."
