Work begins on light at troubled Pawleys Island intersection

The foundation has been laid for a new traffic light that is being installed at a troubled intersection in Pawleys Island near the new Lowes Foods.

WPDE reported that many residents felt the intersection became unsafe after a median lane was removed and a few wrecks were reported.

A traffic study was conducted by the South Carolina Department of Transportation to determine what should be done about the intersection.

The SCDOT decided to install a light at the intersection and said the foundation for the light is in place and next the poles and wiring will be put up.

The new light is expected to be up and running in a few weeks, according to SCDOT.
