Women found dead in Florence County home identified

Florence County Coroner Bubba Matthews says the victims of a homicide over the weekend are Punam Gopaldas, 31, and her mother, Vinaben Patel, 56.

He says the bodies had been at the home for at least seven hours before they were found. Matthews says he isn't releasing how the women were killed.

Deputies found the bodies of the two women during a welfare check. Captain Mike Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff's Office says they got a call to do a welfare check at a home on Nicklaus Court in the Country Club Of South Carolina around 9:22 p.m. Saturday. Nunn says once inside, they found the bodies.

Deputies circled yellow crime scene tape around the home, as they walked the grounds looking for footprints or tire tracks. They're treating the case as a homicide.

A few neighbors gathered near the scene, but didn't say much. Many of them were shocked saying nothing this tragic has ever happened in their community.

Deputies have not said if they have a person of interest or suspect in the killings.
