Around 11:30 a.m. Friday, a woman was taken to Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet after a near drowning.

Rescue crews from Horry and Georgetown counties responded because the incident location is just over the Georgetown County line.

The woman was pulled from the ocean by beachgoers who then started CPR.

We're told the 18-year-old woman was unresponsive when the ambulance left the point and headed to Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire Chief Norman Knight says witnesses told rescue crews the woman fell off a body board in rough ocean conditions and couldn't get back on.

A woman nearby who called 911 when she saw what was happening, says her heart goes out to the young woman. "We have family that's just a little bit older than this ourselves and we've always enjoyed the ocean down here. we hate to see a tragedy like this," said Bonnie Thimes of Lancaster, Ohio.

Georgetown County coroner Kenny Johnson says he has not received calls about the incident and hospital officials say they cannot release any information about the woman, so we are not aware of her condition.

Chief Knight says the woman is from Georgia and was visiting family in the Garden City area when the incident occurred
