Woman found dead in Garden City apartment after SWAT responds

A Garden City woman was found dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound in an apartment on Pathfinder Way Tuesday morning, after SWAT teams and negotiators responded to the scene, according to Lt. Robert Kegler.

Shortly after 6 a.m., officers with Horry County police responded to a call from a family member of the woman who was concerned about her.

When they got there, police saw the front window was shot out.

While trying to contact woman, they heard another gun shot from inside the apartment.

That's when officers backed off and called county SWAT members and the negotiations team.

Negotiators arrived on scene around 7 a.m. and tried to contact the woman, but she did not respond.

Other apartment residents were evacuated around 7:30 a.m.

When police couldn't make contact, Kegler says they entered the apartment and found the woman dead of an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound.

Residents were allowed back in their homes in less than an hour.
