Woman charged with murder in crash that killed a Florence nurse

The woman police say killed Lori Pruett, 36, on Thursday when her car was hit by another vehicle has been charged with murder.

Georgia Woodberry, 31, is also facing charges of Attempted Murder and Discharging a Firearm.

Relatives of a 41-year-old man, who police say is a victim in this case, say he was hurt in the crash and remains in the trauma unit at the hospital. His family says he was the ex-boyfriend of Woodberry, and she had been stalking him for quite some time. Relatives tell NewsChannel 15 they share a 17-month-old daughter, one of her five children.

The man's family was in court Friday afternoon for Woodberry's arraignment and bond hearing.

They say Woodberry showed up outside his apartment on Pamplico Highway in Florence Thursday morning and a

47-year-old woman inside that apartment immediately called 911.

The couple got in their car and the family says Woodberry jumped in hers and started chasing and firing shots at them.

They ended up crashing into Lori Pruett at the intersection of Freedom Boulevard and National Cemetery Road in Florence.

Pruett, a registered nurse at Carolinas Hospital System, was killed. Friday afternoon, her parents were in court for Woodberry's bond hearing. A victim's advocate spoke on their behalf.

"And of the actions made by the defendant on April the 5th, I would ask that the bond be denied on the other charges as well being that she does have a murder charge pending in general sessions court," said Dana Olsen, Victim's Advocate, Florence County Sheriff's Office.

Florence County Magistrate Judge Frank White set bond for Woodberry on the two attempted murder charges and discharging a firearm at $80,000.

A Circuit Court judge has to set bail for her on the murder charge, so she'll remain behind bars.

Police say the 47-year-old woman Woodberry was chasing was shot in the leg and remains in the hospital.

Georgia Woodberry was accused of simple assault in the City of Darlington before the crash. According to a police report, the incident involved a 47-year-old woman Woodberry is accused of shooting and chasing.

Darlington police say in December the 47-year-old woman says Woodberry attacked her and started punching her at a business on Sparks Street in Darlington. The report says the woman stated she's had problems with Woodberry before in Florence County.

The report says a witness to the incident is Woodberry's 41-year-old ex-boyfriend who deputies say was also in the car with the woman Woodberry shot during a chase in Florence County.

Police say the woman never came to sign a warrant against Woodberry , so she was never charged.
